Do you polka?

I didn't. Until I married into a Polish family.

Granted, we're not the most stellar on the polka floor, but we can at least hold the beat... most of the time.

What does polka have to do with today's #SundaySupper?

Very good question.

"In Heaven There Is No Beer"

For today, we've been challenged to come up with dishes inspired by music. And the song that inspired us this week was the German polka "In Heaven There Is No Beer".

Sure, might be a bit irreverent. But it does have a really good polka beat. And, how can a song like this not make you smile?

If you've never heard it, these guys do a pretty good rendition. (No, we're not associated with them in any way. Although, it would be really cool to know a polka band.)

German flavors meet beer bread

For the bread, we went with some classic German flavors: mustard and dill. And, even though we cringed as we used a Missouri-brewed ale in a German inspired bread (since we were running low on German Weiss), the hopsy flavors and brightness of the beer evoke the feel of a German white in this flavorful bread that would make a pretty killer ham sandwich.

  2. Okay, I've attempted to make beer bread, and it never turns out. But I want to try this because it sounds sooooo good

    1. Be sure your beer isn't flat and your baking powder is still fresh. And don't over-mix it. The batter should go straight into the pan the moment it is completely moistened. Best of luck!

  3. Never mind dancing polka, I´ll take a few loaves of this bread! Love the twist with the dill and mustard!
